The Yahoo Toolbar is an optional add-on to your Web browser that is intended to make your Internet activity easier. The toolbar typically is at the top of the page, and offers one-click features, a Yahoo search engine, email retrieval and social networking links. Preview and interact with popular pages, such as eBay or Facebook, without leaving the one you're on, by hovering your cursor over icons. Download and install the Yahoo Toolbar to use it on your computer, and become a registered Yahoo user to maximize its features.
One-Click Features
Click the icons of the Yahoo Toolbar to instantly access popular features. Select the "Weather" icon to browse the forecast anywhere in the world. Link your personal accounts online, such as eBay or Flickr, to make purchases or access data with a single click. Add any of your other favorite icons by using the "Options" tab on the right end of the toolbar.
Yahoo Search Engine
Utilize the pop-up features of the "Yahoo Search Engine" to see suggestions for your search while staying on your current page. The toolbar will recall your last 30 searches unless you manually delete them. Some versions of the toolbar will alert you if you are attempting to access a suspicious site that may contain a virus or malware. The toolbar may also alert you if an automatic attempt is made to change your default search engine from Yahoo.
E-mail Retrieval
Enter the user name and password for your Yahoo email account to access your Inbox with a single click. Hover over the mail to preview your selection, and select a message to open and view it in the pane. Click "View All Yahoo Mail" to navigate to a new webpage. For other email accounts, such as Hotmail or Gmail, browse the catalog of add-ons to add a new icon to the toolbar that operates in the same way.
Social Networking
The Yahoo Toolbar can monitor popular social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook. Enter your personal information, and hover over the icon to see the latest feed updates. Post status updates within the pane, read comments in real-time and interact with others on popular threads. Manage and play your favorite social games, such as Farmville and Mafia Wars, directly from your toolbar.
Website Interaction
Yahoo tracks the sites you click to improve the features it offers you. A built-in algorithm interprets your choices to prevent unwanted pop-ups and spyware. You may choose any number of activities, such as following live scores from professional sports leagues like the MLB, NFL and NBA. You may also track local news and financial updates through live feeds. Track your personal investments with real-time stock quotes and analyst coverage. Type a company name or symbol to get specific information on its latest financial portfolio.
