How to Watch Netflix on a Smartphone

by Contributing Writer

In addition to serving as a phone and organizer, and letting you surf the Internet, your smartphone can also serve as a portable TV/DVD player. With the Netflix app, available for the iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems, you can watch all streaming Netflix content. As long as you have a Netflix account, you can watch videos anywhere, although they will stream faster over a Wi-Fi connection.

Step 1

Download and install the Netflix app for your phone. See Resources for download sites.

Step 2

Tap the app to open it, and then log in to your Netflix account.

Step 3

Browse to the movie or television show you want to watch and tap on it. You can tap the "Search" icon to search for a particular title, or you can tap the "Menu" icon to browse by category.

Step 4

Tap the "Play" button to start the show or movie. If you've chosen a television show, you can also select which episode you want to watch from the list at the bottom of the screen.

  • If possible, when watching longer shows or films, use your phone's Wi-Fi connection instead of your mobile data plan. In addition to streaming the video more quickly, you avoid potential excessive data charges for streaming such a large file.
  • Watching videos can drain your phone's battery quickly. Plug your phone into an outlet before or during streaming the video to avoid draining your battery.
