The AT&T U-verse has music, movie and television options as part of its services. All three are available in high-definition for an additional price, with on-demand capabilities for movies and special events. With six major viewing packages along with add-on services, future potential subscribers should consider the categories, availability and possible additional costs before making a decision.
Premium Channels
AT&T U-verse offers premium channel monthly subscription services at an additional cost in both standard-definition and HD. These include movie channel networks like HBO, Show Time, Starz and Encore. The U-verse U300 lineup includes some of these movie channels. Other premium channel services include foreign language channels and sport-specific packages to include NFL, MLB and NBA. For an additional cost, some sports channels offer extra coverage such as different camera angles or multiple real-time game updates on a single channel.
High Definition
The U-verse's 160 HD channel options mirror most of the standard channels with a more crisp and detailed picture suited for HDTVs. ESPN and all major television networks, for example, are available in HD. Some channels, like the Smithsonian Channel and HD Network channels, are available only in HD and can sometimes require a separate subscription cost.
Music
There are also music channels available via the Music Choice network. Music Choice channels broadcast continuous music by genre along with anecdotal and factoid information on the artist. Genres include classical, 80s, party favorites, electronic and Mexicana music. Additional music channels include SWRV, which allows you to call in and select which music video will play next. Palladia and HD Concert channels broadcast concert footage from festivals and individual artists, respectively.
On Demand
U-verse's On Demand services lets you watch movies, network programming and special events on demand either by pay-per-view or free. All of the premium movie channels have on-demand movies available to channel specific-subscribers. For example, U-verse Showtime subscribers can watch select Showtime movies on demand, but not HBO movies unless they have that channel as well. Free on-demand choices include behind-the-scenes reports of movies and network shows. Special-events for order include mixed martial arts events, boxing matches and concerts.
