Windows Vista is a version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, preceded by Windows XP. If you want to be able to communicate from a Vista computer to an XP computer remotely, you can do so using the Remote Desktop Connection utility that is installed on both Vista and XP.

Step 1

Go to the computer that has XP Professional installed on it, right-click "My Computer", select "Properties" and then click on the "Remote" tab.

Step 2

Check the box marked "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" and then click the "OK" button.

Step 3

Go to your Windows Vista computer, click the "Start" button, type "mstsc" and then click on the "mstsc.exe" program that appears.

Step 4

Type in the name or IP address of your Windows XP computer and hit the "Connect" button. You are immediately connected to the computer, and you are requested to provide a username and password to login. Once you enter this information, you may remotely control the computer.
