How to Use an HP DVD in a Laptop

Laptop's feature optical disc drives that enable you to watch your DVD while traveling on an airplane, train or on vacation or for uploading files and software programs to the computer. The DVDs burned on your HP computer can be used in your laptop as long as you burned the disc in the Mastered format.

Playing a DVD Movie

Step 1

Insert the DVD into your laptop's optical disc drive. The optical drive is most likely found on the side of the laptop's body.

Step 2

Select the "Play DVD in Windows Media Player" option in the "Auto Play" window that appears, if your DVD doesn't start playing automatically.

Step 3

Use the control panel on the Windows Media Player interface to start the playback of the DVD.

Accessing a Data DVD

Step 1

Insert the DVD into your disc drive.

Step 2

Navigate from the "Start" menu and select "Computer." Double-click your disc drive icon to access the files on the DVD.

Step 3

Drag the files from the DVD folder onto your desktop. Wait for the files to be completely transferred to your computer before ejecting the DVD.
