Social networking sites such as Facebook offer an excellent way to network when you're looking for a job. It's best to remember a few things, though, when using Facebook: Keep it professional, neat and clean --- you wouldn't want a potential employer to read that you are having a tailgating party at your home this weekend, for example.

Step 1

Upload a professional photo of yourself to your profile, one featuring a nice smile and well-groomed hair. Anything that you keep on your profile should have a simple, professional look. Give the potential employer a great first impression if they look at your Facebook page.

Step 2

Join various Facebook groups in your chosen career field to start networking. You can meet people in similar career fields around the world who will have lots of tips to get you into that dream job. There are thousands of different groups, and some career fields may even have more than one Facebook group.

Step 3

Share knowledge and expertise with your network. Be able to describe your passion with your network of people so that they know you would be a perfect candidate. You can do this by writing about what type of job you are looking for ron top of your profile page. This is called your "Wall."

Step 4

Search on Facebook for more people to network with. Great places to search for are university pages, where you can talk to professors and people looking for jobs in your career area. You can check a professor's profile for more information about things you are looking for, or even contact them if you have a question.

Step 5

Update your profile regularly. Be sure to add keywords as to what type of work you are looking for. This is similar to tailoring your resume to a particular job. If you are looking for a teaching job or any career that needs a degree, make sure you add your education.
