GKG is a popular Web hosting company. They provide a wide range of Web server options, from shared hosting to dedicated servers and SSL certificates. Regardless of the hosting package you select, to move files from your personal computer to your server you must upload them using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP). The simplest way to upload files to your GKG account using FTP is by downloading, installing and using the free and open-source FileZilla program.

Step 1

Download FileZilla (see Resources). Click the large button labeled "Download FileZilla Client" to download the version that corresponds to your operating system.

Step 2

Install FileZilla. Double-click the file you downloaded in the previous step to open it. Click "I Agree" on the first screen to accept the program's license agreement, then follow the prompts to install the software on your computer. You do not need to restart your machine after installation completes.

Step 3

Log in to your GKG account through FTP. With FileZilla open, enter your website address (without the www prefix) in the field labeled "Host." Enter your account username and password in the corresponding fields directly to the right. Leave the "Port" field empty. Click the button labeled "Quickconnect."

Step 4

Upload your files. The files stored on your local computer appear on the left-hand side of your screen, while the contents of your server appear on the right. Open the folder containing your website files on the right-hand side of the screen by double-clicking the folder labeled "public_html." Find the file you want to upload on the left side of your screen, then move it to your server by right-clicking it and selecting the "Upload" option. Repeat for each file you want to upload.
