If you have Yahoo! Messenger installed on your computer but do not use it as your instant-messaging program, you can uninstall it to free up space on your hard drive. You can quickly remove this feature in Windows Vista by using the Control Panel.

Step 1

Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel" when the Start menu opens.

Step 2

Select "Programs" when the Control Panel opens and double-click "Programs and Features."

Step 3

Scroll through the list of programs installed on your computer and select "Yahoo! Messenger."

Step 4

Click "Uninstall" to remove Yahoo! Messenger from Vista. A box will pop up, asking you to verify that you want to remove Yahoo! Messenger. Click "Finish" to continue. Yahoo! Messenger will begin uninstalling.

Tip

  • Another way to open Programs and Features is to click the "Start" button, select "Run" and type "appwiz.cpl" (without quotes) in the Run box. Click "OK," and Programs and Features will open.
