How to Uninstall PC Tools

by Tim Mammadov

PCTools antivirus is a computer protection software that prevents and wipes out virus and spyware infections. Many users have reported a problem while uninstalling the software and indicated that it's not removable using the standard Windows "Add/Remove Programs" feature. However, the PCTools support has provided an alternative removal method that should uninstall the application within minutes.

Step 1

Click on the "Start" menu and select "Shut Down," or "Turn off Computer," or click on the arrow sign next to a lock symbol. Select "Restart."

Step 2

Start tapping the F8 key immediately after your computer starts booting. Use the keyboard arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" in the Windows menu screen and hit "Enter."

Step 3

Click the "Start" menu, select "Run," type "services.mcs" in the search field and hit "Enter." Scroll down the list of available services, right-click "PC Tools Antivirus Engine" and select "Stop."

Step 4

Click the "Start" menu and select "Run." Type "regedit" in the search field and hit "Enter" to start the Registry Editor.

Step 5

Browse to the following entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PCTools

Click on "PCTools" and then delete the "PCTAV" value in the right section of the Registry Editor.

Step 6

Browse to the following entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PCTools

Click on "PCTools" and then delete the "PCTAV" and "PCTAVSvc" values in the right section of the Registry Editor.

Step 7

Browse to the following entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

Click on "Uninstall" and then delete the "PC Tools AntiVirus_is1" value in the right section of the Registry Editor and close the utility.

Step 8

Click the "Start" menu, select "Run," type "regsvr32." Type "c:\program files\pc tools antivirus\PCTAVShellExtension.dll" /U" in regsvr32, then hit "Enter" and click "OK" in the confirmation pop-up.

Step 9

Click the "Start" menu, select "My Computer" or "Computer," double-click the "C:" drive, double-click the "Program Files" folder and delete the "PC Tools Antivirus" folder. Restart your computer.

Warning

  • Delete only the listed registry values to avoid damage to your computer.
