How to Turn Off Vizio OverScan

by Brandon Getty

OverScan is a feature built into many HDTVs, including the Vizio line. It is meant to ensure that video is displayed at the correct resolution and aspect ratio for your screen. However, OverScan involves cropping the edges of the video, which results in lost pixels. Though the resulting image may fill your entire screen, it can also appear fuzzy or pixelated. To turn off OverScan and view video that is free of manipulation, access your television's settings menu.

Step 1

Turn on your Vizio TV.

Step 2

Press the "Menu" button on your remote. Wait for the main menu to appear on the left of the screen.

Step 3

Navigate to the "Wide" option using your remote's directional arrows. Press the "OK" button in the middle of the arrows to select this option.

Step 4

Tap the "Menu" button once more to exit the settings menu. While the "Wide" aspect ratio is engaged, OverScan cannot function and will remain turned off.

Step 5

Enable OverScan by returning to the menu and selecting an aspect ratio other than "Wide."
