Blackberry smartphones natively support Java mobile programs, allowing you to choose from a large library of mobile Java games. You can download many of these games from the Internet to a PC. Games are available in two formats: a combination of a ".cod" and ".alx" file or a ".jar" file. You can install a ".jar" or ".jad" file to your Blackberry with no additional software, but you'll need Blackberry Desktop Manager to install ".alx" and ".cod" files.

JAR Files

Step 1

Connect your Blackberry to your PC using the USB data cable.

Step 2

Select the "Yes" option to allow USB access on your Blackberry if it prompts you to do so.

Step 3

Open the Blackberry's memory card by selecting its icon from the "My Computer" window.

Step 4

Drag the ".jar" file from your computer to the root directory of the Blackberry's memory card. After the file is done transferring, eject your Blackberry from the computer and disconnect it.

Step 5

Select "Media" from your Blackberry's "Home" screen. Press the "Menu" button and select "Explore" to launch the Blackberry's file browser.

Step 6

Browse to the SD card's root directory. Click the ".jar" file and select "Download." The file game will automatically download and install on your Blackberry. You can access your game from the "Home" screen.

COD/ALX Files

Step 1

Download, install and open Blackberry's Desktop Manager software (see Resources) on your computer.

Step 2

Connect your Blackberry to your PC using the phone's USB data cable.

Step 3

Click on "Application Loader" in the Blackberry Desktop Manager's main window.

Step 4

Click the "Add" button and browse to the location of the ".alx" file on your computer. Select the file and click "OK." Repeat this step to add more games.

Step 5

Click the "Next" button. Wait for Blackberry Desktop Manager to finish transferring and installing your new games on your Blackberry. Disconnect your Blackberry. You can access your new games via the Blackberry's "Home" screen.

Tip

  • If you downloaded a game that is part of an archive, extract the archive to a folder on your computer to get access to the ".jar," ".alx" or ".cod" files.
