One of the hassles of buying a new cell phone is transferring contacts from your old phone to your new one. If the phone doesn't use a SIM card, you may have to transfer the contacts manually, which can be time consuming. Sony Ericsson offers a free service to customers that makes transferring contacts much easier. By registering for a free online account, users can easily sync contacts, calendars, tasks, bookmarks and other phone data.
Step 1
Open your Web browser and navigate to the link listed in Resource 1.
Step 2
Select your phone model from the scrolling list on the center of the page. Enter an email address and password in the spaces provided below the phone list. The password must contain both letters and numbers, and contain at least eight characters. On the bottom-right of the page, check the box next to "Personalized phone and service updates." You can also check the box next to "News and promotions" if you wish to receive these messages. Click "Sign up" to complete registration. You will need to open the email account you used and click on the link in the Sony Ericsson registration message to confirm the account.
Step 3
Navigate to the link in Resource 1 and click "Log in" at the top-right of the page. Enter your email address and password, and click "Log in."
Step 4
Click "Set up sync" at the bottom of the page. A pop-up window will appear. Select the model of your old phone and click "Next." The pop-up will now display specific instructions depending upon your phone model. The phone setup details will vary slightly between models, but in all cases you will select "Sony Ericsson sync" from the phone's menu. Next you will log into the account you just created. Select "Accept" on the authorization screen, and begin the sync by selecting "Synchronize."
Step 5
Activate the new phone if you haven't already done so. Repeat Step 5 to synchronize the new phone. The procedure will be similar, but not necessarily the same, depending on the new phone model. The contacts and other information you uploaded to the account from your old phone will automatically download to your new phone.
Tip
- If you are transferring your current service to a new phone, make sure you perform the sync procedure on the old phone before you transfer your service to the new phone.
