To transfer the music on a CD to your Apple iPod with a Mac, you must add the music to your iTunes library. If you don't use iTunes, the iPod will store the music information, but will be unable to play it. The iTunes application and the iPod are designed to work with one another.

Step 1

Go to the "Applications" folder and double-click on "iTunes."

Step 2

Insert the CD in your Mac's optical drive. If you are connected to the Internet iTunes will search for the song name, album and artist information online.

Step 3

Click "Yes" when the pop-up window asks if you want to import the CD. The contents of the CD will import into iTunes.

Step 4

Connect the iPod to your Mac using the cable included with your purchase.

Step 5

Click on the iPod in the "Devices" menu on the left side of the window.

Step 6

Go to the "Summary" tab and choose the option to "Manually manage music and videos." Press the "Apply" button.

Step 7

Drag the tracks from the CD you added to the library in Step 3 to the iPod icon and drop them in to add them to the iPod.
