How to Sync Outlook Contacts With a Droid

by Travis Meyer

Although the Android mobile operating system does not include native support for syncing your phone's contacts with your Microsoft Outlook account, the Android Market offers a number of third-party solutions. Utilizing computer-based secondary programs to send your Outlook data to your Android phone, the process of syncing your contacts primarily works through your local Wi-Fi network, which is accessible both to your computer and your phone.

Sync with SyncSquare

Step 1

Activate your Android phone and access the Android Market from the start screen. Search for "SyncSquare," select it from the search results and select "Download" to add the application to your device.

Step 2

Go to SyncSquare's website and click "Download" to download the desktop companion software to your computer. Follow the installation prompts and click "OK" to complete the installation.

Step 3

Open SyncSquare on your Android phone and wait until your Wi-Fi network's IP address appears on the screen.

Step 4

Launch SyncSquare on your computer and click "Search." Your phone appears as an icon in the bottom pane. Click "Connect." Tap "Yes" on your Android phone to accept the connection request. A pass key appears on the following screen.

Step 5

Type the pass key into the dialog window on your computer.

Step 6

Click "Contacts" in the top right of the window on your computer.

Step 7

Check the box next to "Contacts" below the Microsoft Outlook header.

Step 8

Click "Sync Now." Your Outlook contacts will sync with your Android phone.

Sync with DejaOffice

Activate your Android phone and open the Android Market from the start screen. Search for "DejaOffice," select the result from the search result list and click "Install" to install the app to your Android phone.

Step 3

Open DejaOffice on your Android phone, select "Settings" from the menu, choose "Sync Settings," click "Sync Type" and choose "Wi-Fi Sync." Tap "Wi-Fi Settings." Doing so displays the device's IP address and device name. Note these numbers for use in CompanionLink.

Step 4

Launch CompanionLink on your computer and choose "Android Wi-Fi Sync" from the list of options. Click "Android Settings" and type the IP address and device name shown in DejaOffice on your phone. Click "Next." DejaOffice connects to CompanionLink, which sends your Microsoft Outlook contact data to your phone.
