You can take your entire CD music collection with you using the iPod, Apple's portable media player. Apple's free iTunes software manages the iPod's contents and also handles the ripping and importation of CD media. The entire process is automated, and you'll soon be enjoying your favorite CD on your iPod with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Step 1

Launch the iTunes software. It's located in your Mac's Applications folder or in your Windows Start menu.

Step 2

Insert a music CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. The CD will appear in the left column of iTunes.

Step 3

Click the CD icon in iTunes. A list of the CDs songs will appear.

Step 4

Press "Import CD" in the top right corner of the screen. The importing process may take several minutes, depending on the length of each song and the number of songs on the CD.

Step 5

Connect your iPod to your computer using its included sync cable. The iTunes software will automatically sync with the device and transfer the music you just imported into iTunes onto the iPod.
