The Samsung Impression, an AT&T cell phone, uses PC Studio to sync your cell phone to your computer. This program not only allows you to copy media, such as audio and image files, between your computer and phone, but also synchronizes your phone contacts with your Microsoft Outlook contacts. Synchronizing your contacts makes it easier to keep track of phone numbers between your computer and phone, as well as serving as a back up in case one set of contacts is accidentally wiped out.
Step 1
Install PC Studio on your computer; the most recent edition is Windows compatible and available from the Samsung website (see Resources). Make sure that you've removed any previous editions of PC Studio from your computer before starting the installation.
Step 2
Restart your computer. Connect your Impression to the computer either by USB cable or by Bluetooth. If connecting via Bluetooth, make sure that your phone is on the home screen; if you're in another menu, it can result in a "Device is not in idle mode" error.
Step 3
Right-click on your phone icon in the PC Studio window and select "Run Wizard." Choose the fourth option, "Phonebook/Synchronize With Outlook." This feature also works with Outlook Express and may work with Mozilla Thunderbird.
Step 4
Check the Synchronize With Outlook box in the bottom-right corner of the screen and click "Start." You are prompted to select the device the sync contacts with; select "SGH-A887," which is the product number for the Samsung Impression. If you do not want to add your mobile contacts to Outlook, deselect the "Sync Between Phonebook and Outlook" before clicking "OK."
Step 5
Review which fields are supported in the contact transfer. Click "OK" to begin the synchronization. Although supported fields do not sync, they do not negatively affect the data that does sync.
Step 6
Review the synchronization details after the process is complete; it shows how many contacts were copied or modified. Close the wizard and disconnect your phone.
Tip
- If you're having trouble connecting your phone via Bluetooth, you may have to enter the Bluetooth port your phone uses into PC Studio manually. For details regarding Bluetooth usage with your phone, check your phone's user manual.
- You can also use PC Studio to copy media between your phone and your computer.
