Verizon Wireless is a company that offers cell phone services on 3G and 4G networks throughout the country, and also services 60 additional countries throughout the world. Throughout the United States there are 88.4 retail customers. To receive cellular service through Verizon Wireless, customers must sign a contract that lasts two years. These contracts are not binding; as a customer you may cancel your contract at anytime, however, it will cost you a fee of $175. See Reference 1, page 7 and Reference 2

Step 1

Call the Verizon customer service hotline at 800-922-0204. If you are calling from your Verizon Wireless cell phone, dial *611 to be directly connected to customer service.

Step 2

Enter your 10-digit phone number, then listen to the prompts, selecting the one that will direct you to a customer service representative that specializes in account cancellation. These numbers change frequently, so listen closely. Pressing "0" will take you directly to a customer service representative.

Step 3

Answer the security questions that the customer service representative asks, which will likely include your name, date of birth, social security number and billing address. After she has collected your information and asks why you are calling, let her know that you would like to cancel your account. She will direct you from that point on.

Tip

  • As of June 2011, it is not possible to cancel your contract via the Internet; you can only do so over the phone or in a Verizon Wireless store.
