If you use Verizon FiOS for your home phone service, voice mail comes as a standard option. When you are unavailable to answer a call, the caller will hear a recorded greeting and will be prompted to leave you a message just as he would be with a traditional answering machine. You can then check your messages by dialing the FiOS voice mail access number from any phone, no matter where you are. Setting up your FiOS voice mailbox and password for the first time takes only a matter of minutes.

Step 1

Call the FiOS voice mail access number -- 1-888-234-6786 -- from your home telephone.

Step 2

Enter your default password, which is the last four digits of your FiOS telephone number. After entering this number, press the pound key.

Step 3

Follow the prompts to initialize your mailbox, record a greeting and set a new password. The password you choose must be four to 10 digits long and may not contain any portion of your telephone number, any repeating digits or ascending or descending digits such as 1234 or 4321.
