Buying and selling items on the Internet can be a hassle when websites require users to input credit card or banking information. The use of PayPal bypasses this problem and offers users a safe and fast way to pay merchants as well as bill customers for goods and services. Setting up a PayPal account requires nothing more than a valid bank account.

Step 1

Access the PayPal homepage.

Step 2

Select "Sign Up" from the options listed on the top of the website.

Step 3

Choose your country and language and then select the type of account you wish to enroll in. The choices are Personal, Premiere, or Business.

Step 4

Enter your email address and a password for the account. The password must be at least eight characters.

Step 5

Enter your personal information including name, address and phone number. Click "Agree and Create Account" once this info has been entered.

Step 6

Select "Pay With My Bank Account" or "Pay With My Credit Card" and press "Continue." This determines where money is drawn from.

Step 7

Enter your bank account information. Use a check to determine the nine digit routing number and bank account number.

Step 8

Check the email address you provided for a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to confirm your account and be taken to the PayPal main page.

Step 9

Log in to your account using your email address and password. You can begin using PayPal.

Tip

  • Confirm your bank account information by using PayPal to perform a test transaction. These procedure will allow you to transfer larger amounts of money between your bank account and PayPal account.

Warning

  • Be careful about withdrawing money from your bank account into your PayPal account. This can lead to overdraft charges if your bank account balance can't cover the withdrawal.
