Cisco produces a line of consumer networking equipment known as Linksys by Cisco. The Linksys by Cisco Wireless G device is a network router used to create a local wireless network. When setting up a Linksys by Cisco Wireless G router, the network connection from your cable or DSL modem is broadcasted as a wireless signal and can be shared by multiple computers or mobile devices.

Step 1

Connect your Linksys by Cisco Wireless G router to your cable or DSL modem using a standard ethernet cable.

Step 2

Launch a web browser on your PC computer and enter "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and hit "Enter."

Step 3

Go to the "Setup" tab at the top of the page.

Step 4

Choose the "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" option from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

Go to the "Wireless" tab at the top of the page.

Step 6

Enter the name that you want to use for your local wireless network in the "Wireless Network Name (SSID)" field.

Step 7

Go to the "Wireless Security" tab at the top of the page.

Step 8

Choose the type of security mode you want to use on your wireless network. Linksys by Cisco recommends using WPA2 Personal for home networks.

Step 9

Enter the password you want to use on your network in the "WPA Shared Key" field.

Step 10

Press the "Save Settings" button when you are done configuring your Wireless G router. The router will now begin broadcasting a wireless signal using the network settings you selected.
