You can get a broadband connection using cable, DSL or fiber optics. The connection must be provided by an Internet service provider. To create an Internet network using the broadband connection, you need to have a router. The router allows you to provide up to four users with the Internet connection. The four users can also communicate to each other.

Step 1

Connect the Internet cable from the wall jack to the back of the Internet modem. If you are using DSL, the Internet cable is a phone line. If you are using cable or fiber optics, the Internet cable is a coaxial cable.

Step 2

Connect an Ethernet cable from the back of the Internet modem to the WAN port on the router.

Step 3

Connect an Ethernet cable from each computer to one of the four LAN ports on the router.

Step 4

Turn on the Internet modem. Wait a minute, then turn on the router. Wait a minute, then turn on the computers.
