Acer computer systems include a computer management utility called Acer eRecovery Management. You can use this utility to create custom backup images of your entire computer, create a bootable hard drive image file, create restore points and reinstall applications and drivers. If your operating system no longer functions properly or you keep getting inexplicable system errors, you can, as a last resort, use Acer eRecovery Management to reset your system to its factory default condition, erasing all data and programs from your computer.

Step 1

Back up any important files to external media. Plug in the power adapter if you have an Acer laptop.

Step 2

Click "Start" and select "Acer Empowering Technology," followed by "Acer eRecovery Management." Click the "Acer eRecovery Management" icon on the Acer toolbar that appears on the desktop. Click "Restore" at the bottom of the window to view the recovery options.

Step 3

Click "Restore system to factory default" to automatically restart your Acer computer and reinstall the operating system from the hidden system recovery partition.

Tip

  • Click "Backup" in Acer eRecovery Management, then select "Create" to make a backup of your data before performing the factory reset.

Warning

  • Resetting your Acer computer to its factory condition will erase everything on the hard drive.
