Users may have difficulty believing the Yahoo! toolbar is a virus. After all, Yahoo! is a reputable company with a long history of improving users' web experiences. However, while its toolbar browser add-on isn't itself a virus, it is incredibly virus-prone, rendering it almost impossible to delete. Getting rid of a toolbar virus will get your toolbar back to working order or allow you to delete it entirely.
Run Microsoft's "Malicious Software Removal Tool." To do so, open your computer's "Start" menu and click "Run." Type "MRT" when it opens, then hit the "Enter." This application comes pre-installed with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. If the repair tool seems to be missing for some reason, you can download a new copy from Microsoft's website.
Select "Full Scan." While this does take longer than the "Quick Scan" default, it gives a better chance of deleting a Yahoo! Toolbar virus from your computer.
Click "Next." Wait for the program to complete a scan of your infected computer.
Follow the prompts that appear to delete the Yahoo! toolbar virus.
Restart your computer.
Uninstall the toolbar if you no longer want it. In Firefox, select "Uninstall" from the "Add-Ons" menu under Tools. For Internet Explorer, remove it from your Windows Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" menu.
