Vundo will slow and disrupt your computer's performance.
The file Vundo Trojan is one of the most common and disruptive threats to your personal computer. Vundo, also known as Virtumonde or Virtumondo, infects the computer through corrupt email attachments or browser plug-ins. It slows computer performance through frequent pop-ups, disrupting memory and blocking some websites. Removing Vundo is tricky, but fortunately, there are some tailored solutions designed to eradicate the malware.
Identification
Before beginning some of the procedures designed specifically to remove the Vundo Trojan, make sure that the Vundo is the culprit in disrupting your computer performance. The clearest sign of infection is the presence of frequent pop-up windows warning of an infection and offering to provide software to remove it, such as AntiSpywareMaster or Virus Doctor. Do not click on these links. They will make the infection worse. Additionally, Vundo can block access to some frequently used websites, including Google or your Web-based mail provider, and Vundo might redirect you to malware sites when clicking on results from a search engine.
Removal
A few free online resources have the capability to remove Vundo. Vundo.org, a blog dedicated to the removal of the Trojan, recommends Spyware Doctor With Antivirus, saying it can remove the program and all of its rootkits. Atribune designed VundoFix, a free tool made specifically to search for and remove the Vundo Trojan. Spybot Search & Destroy also has a good track record in removing Vundo. Standard antivirus software like Norton and McAfee generally are not effective, however. While they can detect and remove Vundo files, the sneaky Trojan is able to regenerate itself, sometimes under an alias that is harder to detect, the next time you boot your computer. Always run any of the above fixes with your computer in safe mode so as few programs are running as possible during the scan. This enhances the chances of detection and removal.
Persistent Problems
If the above fixes do not solve your problems, your computer might need the Trojan to be removed manually. This can create grave problems for your computer if performed incorrectly, so if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you should call in a professional. Online services like onlinecomputerrepair.org or brick-and-mortar services like Best Buy's Geek Squad all will do this for a fee. Back up your hard drive first if attempting a manual removal. Use your registry editors to remove Vundo's registry values, unregister Vundo DLL files with the Windows command prompt and search for and find any Vundo process files. As a last resort, you can reformat and reinstall your operating system. This will eliminate your Vundo problem but also will delete all of your stored files.
