It is easy to accumulate a vast collection of music on an iPod, so perhaps you want to delete music to conserve memory space or freshen up your playlists. IPod players work in conjunction with iTunes software, which organizes music on your computer. By default, iTunes automatically synchronizes the music library and playlists on your computer with your iPod. Change the configuration of iTunes differently if you want to remove music manually.
Delete Automatically With iTunes
Step 1
Turn on the computer and connect the iPod.
Step 2
Launch the iTunes software program.
Step 3
View the iTunes music Library.
Step 4
Select the song you want to delete. To select multiple songs, hold down the "CTRL" key.
Step 5
Press the "Delete" key, or select "Edit" and "Delete" from the top menu. Songs deleted from the iTunes library are automatically removed your iPod.
Delete iPod Music Manually
Step 1
Turn on the computer and connect the iPod.
Step 2
Launch the iTunes software program.
Step 3
Select your iPod from the devices list on the left.
Step 4
Go to the summary tab.
Step 5
Select "Manually manage music and videos" and click "Apply."
Step 6
Click the gray triangle next to the iPod to view its contents, then click "Music."
Step 7
Select the song you want to delete. To select multiple songs, hold down the "CTRL" key.
Step 8
Press the "Delete" key, or select "Edit" and "Delete" from the top menu. Songs deleted manually from the iPod remain in the iTunes music library.
Tip
- iTunes software can be downloaded for free from Apple.com.
- These instructions apply to iTunes 7 or later.
Warning
- Back up music files on your computer before deleting them from your iPod, or they could be permanently lost.
