How to Resync Wii Controllers

by Michelle Castle

Your Wii controllers come synchronized with your console; if you use the controllers with another Wii console, you may need to resync them. The Wii offers two ways to synchronize remotes. The standard mode saves the synchronization settings even when the Wii is turned off. The one-time synchronization mode is faster, but the synchronization settings disappear when the Wii is turned off.

One-Time Synchronization

Step 1

Press the "Home" button on the Wii controller.

Step 2

Click "Wii Remote Settings" in the Wii's "Home" menu, then click the "Reconnect" button.

Step 3

Point the Wii remote at the Wii. Press and hold the "1" and "2" buttons on the remote until the LEDs on the bottom of the remote blink.

Standard Synchronization

Step 1

Remove the battery cover from the Wii remote and press the small red "Sync" button located below the battery compartment.

Step 2

Open the SD card compartment on the front of the Wii console. Press and release the red "Sync" button. The LEDs on the bottom of the remote will blink.

Step 3

Close the SD card compartment and replace the remote's battery cover.

Tip

  • The LED that remains lit after you sync a remote indicates the remote's player number.
  • Make sure you have batteries in the Wii remote and that the Wii console is on.
