Resetting your Verizon Wireless cellphone satellite updates your cellphone to new towers. Updating your cellphone provides you with better service, fewer dropped calls and reduces the time your phone is in roaming mode. Your phone is roaming anytime you're in an area not serviced by a Verizon Wireless satellite tower; new towers are built on a regular basis. Verizon Wireless representatives recommend resetting your cellphone satellite towers every month.

Step 1

Push “*228” on your Verizon Wireless cellphone and press the “Send” key.

Step 2

Stay on the line while you listen to an automated system provide you with options. When prompted press the “2” key on your cellphone keypad to update your tower service.

Step 3

Listen until the automated system confirms your phone is upgraded; this process could take several minutes.
