An iPod has numerous settings saved on the device, such as the software that has been uploaded onto the player and how the iPod syncs to the Apple software iTunes. You may wish to reset all of the iPod settings that have been saved on the player, especially if the player is not functioning properly. In order to reset the iPod settings, you will need to restore or reformat the iPod.
Step 1
Connect the iPod you wish to reset to the computer using the iPod's USB cable.
Step 2
Open iTunes.
Step 3
Click the iPod name in the left panel of iTunes. The name is positioned underneath "Devices."
Step 4
Click on the "Summary" tab in the center iTunes section. Two buttons will become visible in that window.
Step 5
Click the "Restore" button and a window will appear. Click "Restore" in this window to start the process.
Step 6
Click "Restore Option 1" in the new window and then click "Restore." The settings on the iPod will be reset. Unplug your iPod once iTunes directs you to do so.
Warning
- Restoring the iPod will delete all songs and settings from the device.
