Ink cartridges are a costly necessity, but many people choose to reduce their cost by refilling ink instead of simply buying new cartridges. This simple process requires only a few tools: a syringe, tape, paper towels and ink. This quick task can save you quite a bit of money over the life of your printer.

Prepare the Cartridge

Take the empty cartridge out of the printer and wipe it with a paper towel to clean sludge and solidified ink. Peel off the sticker or tape covering the head of the cartridge. Measure a small length of tape to re-cover the cartridge.

Collect the Ink

Open the ink bottle and take 10ml of ink into the syringe. Replace the ink bottle cap. Insert the needle of the syringe into the hole on top of the ink cartridge and slowly inject. Take care that the needle is inside the hole and press slowly so as not to spill ink.

Reseal the Cartridge

Remove the syringe and place it on a paper towel. Use the tape to re-cover the head of the cartridge and place it back in the printer.
