Your Wireless G Linksys router includes a browser-based management tool for modifying the settings and securing your Internet connection. Enabling encryption on your router increases your Internet security and stops devices outside of your network from accessing your router. Once you set up encryption on your router, you can access your wireless network using a password of your choice.

Step 1

Open a new window or tab in your Internet browser and type "192.168.1.1" into the address bar. Press "Enter." At the resulting login screen, enter "admin" as the password and leave the username field blank. These are the default settings; you can change them using the router's Administration tool.

Step 2

Select "Wireless" and choose the "Wireless Security" tab. Select "WPA Pre-Shared Key" as the Security Mode. Choose "TKIP" for the algorithm. Type a password between eight and 32 characters long into the "WPA Shared Key" field. You will need to enter this password into any wireless device that you use to access the network.

Step 3

Click the "Save Settings" button to save the changes.
