How to Program a Charter Cable Remote

by Contributing Writer

When you sign up for Charter cable, you are given a digital box (often a DVR) and a remote control that works with the digital box. These remote controls can be programmed to work with your television, sound system, DVD player or other elements of your home theater. While you do not have to program your Charter remote to work with all of these devices, you can eliminate the need for multiple remotes if you do.

Step 1

Turn on the device you want to program to operate with your Charter cable remote.

Step 2

Press the button on the remote control that corresponds with the device, either "TV," "VCR," "Cable," or "Audio."

Step 3

Hold the "Setup" button on the remote until the red light blinks twice, then release the button.

Step 4

Enter the four digit code for your device. You can find a list of codes in the Resources section below.

Step 5

Aim the remote control at the device and press the "Power" button. The device should turn off. If it does not, repeat the previous steps.
