The Sony VAIO line of computers is equipped with the VAIO Recovery Center tool to help restore or repair the software of a computer not working correctly. The Recovery Center allows you to perform a full reinstallation of the Windows operating system that shipped with the computer, and to restore the system to the state in which it shipped from the factory. Know that doing this erases all the data you've saved to the system since you received it, so you should back up your files first.

Step 1

Click "Start," then select "Help and Support." Click the "Backup & Recovery" link, then click "Launch VAIO Recovery Center."

Step 2

Choose "Restore C: Drive" to fully reformat and reload the computer, erasing all the data on the computer. Then click the button labeled "Start." Put a check in the box next to "Skip," then click "Next."

Step 3

Check the box next to "I understand," indicating that you know that all the files on the C: drive of your Sony VAIO will be deleted. Click the button labeled "Start" within the Recovery Center. Wait for the recovery applications to install, then click "Finish." Follow the instructions printed on the screen to complete the reinstallation of Windows on your computer.
