If you are dissatisfied enough to cancel your Verizon Wireless contract, you can do so at any time, but you will encounter a $175 Early Termination Fee. The purpose of this fee is to recoup the costs of the discounted phone that you received at the beginning of the contract. Verizon offers a couple of ways out of the fee, but you have to act quickly.
Step 1
Return your wireless phone to the company using the shipping materials that came with it, or return it to a local Verizon retail location. Call to cancel your service within three days of activation. By law, you have three days to reconsider any contract you sign. Then, you will receive a refund of your Activation Fee, and the Early Termination Fee will not apply.
Step 2
Cancel your service within 14 days of activation. If you received a promotional price for your wireless phone, you also have to return it, either by shipping it back or taking it to a retail location. This will save you the Early Termination Fee, but you won't get a refund for the Activation Fee if you cancel after the first three days.
Step 3
Return all equipment in the required time frame. If you return it after the time frame specified when you cancel your service, you won't be refunded the Early Termination Fee, and Verizon will keep the phone anyway.
