Apple's iPod allows you to enable a disk mode, which makes the iPod function as a portable hard drive. Although this is a useful feature, it also requires that you "eject" your iPod before disconnecting it from your computer. This may become a minor inconvenience, so if you no longer use the disk mode, there's no point in requiring this extra step.

Step 1

Attach one end of the iPod connector cable to your iPod, and attach the other end to an available Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on your computer.

Step 2

Open iTunes and click "iPod," located under "Devices" on the left-hand panel.

Step 3

Click "Summary" on the top menu of the right-hand panel.

Step 4

Uncheck the boxes next to "Enable disk use" and "Manually manage music and videos," located under the "Options" section. Both options enable disk use and should be disabled. You can uncheck the boxes by clicking a checked box. Disk mode will now be disabled.
