Your iTunes library can serve as a storage place for all your music as well as TV shows, movies and even podcasts. Once you have these items in your iTunes library, you can easily transfer them to your iPod or iPhone by syncing your device with iTunes. When you obtain these items through the iTunes Store, they are added to your personal library automatically. The process of getting other music from your computer into iTunes is not quite as straightforward.
Step 1
Open iTunes.
Step 2
Click "File" and then click "Add Folder to Library" or "Add File to Library," depending on whether you want to transfer a single song or an entire folder of music into iTunes. This opens a new window that allows you to navigate through your computer.
Step 3
Navigate through your computer in the new window until you find the folder of music or the particular song that you want to put into iTunes. When you've located the file or folder, click on it.
Step 4
Click "Select Folder" for folders of music or "Open" for a single song. This will upload the song or folder into your iTunes library. Depending on how much music you are transferring, this process may take a few minutes.
