Customizing your Razr cell phone with ringtones offers you a convenient way of expressing your personality and style. Instead of purchasing new ringtones regularly, consider making your own with a few applications or online services.

Motorola Software

Use Motorola Phone Tools to create a custom made ringtone for your Razr cell phone. With the "Melody Editor" feature, convert some of the songs from your existing music collection into ringtones. To get started, connect a compatible USB cable to your computer and launch the Motorola Phone Tools application. Browse through the listed songs and select one for the conversion process.

Choose the start and end points of your new ringtone by moving the pointers around. Before finalizing the selected song, click the "Play" icon in the "Preview" window to hear the sample. If you're happy with the results, press the checkmark to confirm it. Create a name and save your new ringtone before transferring it to your Razr phone.

iTunes

Make ringtones for your Razr cell phone by using iTunes. Just simply create a brand new playlist to store them. Hold and drag the songs you'd like to use into the playlist area. After selecting the music stored on your computer, open the playlist to begin changing some of the default settings.

Right click onto the song and click the "Get Info" link. From the displayed tabs, pick the one labeled "Options." Change the start and stop time to the portion of the song you want to use as a ringtone. Press the "OK" button to sample the melody.

Change the settings for the MP3 encoder in iTunes. Click the "Edit" link from the menu bar. On the "General" tab, go to the "Import Settings" section and click the button. Choose "MP3 Encoder" from the drop-down list and pick "Custom." Another pop-up box will appear for you to continue customizing the settings. Next to "Stereo Bit Rate," select the "64 Kbps" option. Set the "Sample Rate" to 22.050 kHz and pick "Mono" for the channel.

Locate the new ringtone by opening the "Music" folder on your computer's hard drive. The ringtone is stored in the "iTunes Music" folder under the artist's name. Transfer it to your Razr cell phone via a connected USB cable or a Bluetooth connection.

Websites

Visit an online website that allows you to convert songs into a ringtone for the Motorola Razr. A few common websites include Audiko, Make OwnRingtone, and Myxer. Choose to upload the current songs on your computer's hard drive or enter the URL of an online song. Select the starting and stopping points of your ringtone by previewing it. Once you're finished, download the new Razr ringtone via email, text message, or a cable connected to your computer.
