Even though the iPod is an Apple product, you can still connect it to your PC. Connecting the two allows you to transfer music files between the PC and iPod. You can also charge your iPod by plugging it into the computer, but the computer must be turned on. Before your computer can be compatible with your iPod, you must first download iTunes. This is Apple software that can be used on a PC that helps you manage music between your iPod and PC. It's a free download.

Step 1

Download the iTunes software. You can download the latest version to your PC from the link in Resources.

Step 2

Restart your computer. You'll need to do this so the software will work without any problems.

Step 3

Plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into the bottom of the iPod. You can do this with most iPod models. The Nano is the only iPod model that does not have a USB port. For this model, you need to insert the iPod Nano into the cradle it came with.

Step 4

Plug the other end of the USB into your PC. If you have an iPod Nano, plug the other end of the dock into your computer. Your computer will recognize the iPod and launch iTunes automatically.
