WordPress is a blogging content management system that allows you to design your own online blog or website. You write posts and pages using the WordPress editor and publish them on the Internet. The WordPress editor also allows you to place images into posts and pages to complement your text. If you want to use an image that is too large to place in your post, you can make the image show as a smaller thumbnail, instead of the full-sized image. When a user clicks the thumbnail, the larger version of the image will open in the browser.

Step 1

Log into your WordPress content management system.

Step 2

Open an existing post or click "New Post" to create a new post.

Step 3

Click the "Add an Image" icon. This icon looks like a small gray picture frame.

Step 4

Click "Select a File" to browse your computer for images.

Step 5

Double-click the image you want to add to the post. The image information will appear in the upload window.

Step 6

Type a short phrase in the "Caption" text box. You can use this as a description for the image or to tell users to click the thumbnail for a larger image.

Step 7

Ensure the link to the full-sized image appears in the "Link URL" text box. If it does not, click "File URL" under the text box.

Step 8

Select an alignment for your picture. This allows you to place the picture in the left, right or center area of your post's text.

Step 9

Place a mark next to the "Thumbnail" option.

Step 10

Click "Insert into Post" to save the changes and place the image on your post.

Step 11

Click "Publish" to publish the post to the Internet. Now, when you view the post, the image will appear as a thumbnail instead of the full-sized image.
