AOL is a communications and content service provider. AOL has a feature that allows you to create your own chat room with your AOL Instant Messenger user name and password. This is a useful feature when you need to communicate with a number of people at the same time. It takes about two minutes to create a chat room.

Step 1

Open a browser.

Step 2

Go to AOL's main chat page (see Resource section).

Step 3

Hit the "Create Your Own Chat" button.

Step 4

Type in your user name or email and your password in the small window that appears.

Step 5

Enter a name for the chat room, a category, a description and a welcome message in the fields that are available. Put a check mark in the box next to "Show in the AIM Chat Directory" if you want the chat room to be open for the public.

Step 6

Put a check mark next to "I have read and agree to the AIM Chat Guidelines."

Step 7

Click the "Create Chat" button.
