You can find your HP notebook's serial number in the support software issued with the notebook or on a printed sticker adhered to the notebook. This serial number uniquely identifies your notebook and is used when contacting support. However, for some support concerns, such as downloading drivers and software, all you need is the product or model number.
Step 1
Click "Start" and type "HP Support Assistant" (without quotes) in the search box of your Windows 7 or Vista PC. Click "HP Support Assistant" in the list to open the support program. Look at the bottom status bar for "Serial Number." You can also find your "Product Name" and "Product Number" there.
Step 2
Click "Start" and then "HP Help and Support" on your Windows XP PC. Look at the upper-left panel for "Serial Number." You can also find your "Product Name" and "Product Number" there.
Step 3
Look for a sticker on the underside or your HP notebook or within the battery compartment. To assess the battery compartment, turn off your notebook, slide the battery lock to the printed "Unlock" position and slide the battery away from the notebook. Look for "Serial Number" or "s/n" on the sticker. You can also find product name, model number and warranty number there.
