ITunes offers an online store where you can purchase individual songs or whole albums by a wide variety of artists. ITunes also allows you to import songs that you have obtained in other ways, such as by ripping your CDs or through other online stores, into your iTunes library. Once you have your music in your iTunes music library, the process of transferring your songs to your iPod is extremely simple. You can transfer your whole iTunes library or just a single song if you prefer.

Step 1

Plug your iPod into a computer other than the one you usually use to sync the iPod to iTunes. This secondary computer must also have iTunes. Click "Cancel" in the iTunes window asking if you want to sync your iPod with this computer.

Step 2

Click on your iPod in iTunes' left panel. Scroll down to the "Options" section of the main iTunes screen, then check the box beside "Manually manage music and videos." This may open a dialog box; if so, click "OK." Click "Apply" in the lower right corner of the iTunes program.

Step 3

Plug your iPod into the computer with the song you wish to transfer. If that song is on the computer the iPod is currently plugged into, simply leave it plugged in.

Step 4

Find the song you wish to transfer to your iPod in your list of music. Click on this song, then drag it to your iPod where it is listed in iTunes' left panel. Repeat this process for any other songs you wish to transfer to your iPod.
