MP3 players are extremely popular devices that allow users to listen to their favorite songs on-the-go. Though you can use a variety of music services, such as iTunes, Napster and Rhapsody, to purchase and sync music, you can also rip your favorite songs from a CD to your hard drive and sync the tracks to your MP3 player. To easily rip a CD on a PC, you can use Windows Media Player 12. The multimedia application is free and is available in Windows 7.
Ripping a CD
Step 1
Go to "Start" and type "Media Player" in the Windows search box. Windows Media player will launch automatically. If the application opens in "Now Playing" mode, click on the "Switch to Library Mode" toolbar button.
Step 2
Click on the "Rip Settings" tab and select "More Options." After the "Options" window appears on your screen, click on the "Rip Music" tab. Switch the rip settings from WMA format to MP3 format by using the "Format" drop-down menu. Click on the "Apply" button to save your new format settings and then close the "Options" window.
Step 3
Select the CD you want to rip to Windows Media Player and place it in your computer's disc drive. Windows Media Player will recognize each track on the album and the list of songs will be displayed on the screen.
Step 4
Click on the "Rip CD" toolbar button if you want to rip the entire CD. If you prefer not to rip certain tracks, remove the check next to each undesired song. After clicking on the "Rip CD" button, the songs on your chosen album will begin ripping to your computer and will be saved in your Windows Media Player music library.
Syncing Music
Step 1
Turn on your MP3 player and connect it to your PC by using the device's USB cable.
Step 2
Click on the "Music" button, which is located on the left side of the screen. A list of music in your Windows Media Player library will be displayed on the screen. Determine which tracks you want to sync to your MP3 player. Each music track you want to sync to your MP3 player should have a checked box next to the song title.
Step 3
Click on the "Sync" button. The application will begin syncing your MP3s to your device.
