The Apple iPhone is known for its sleek looks. At first glance, though, this can make the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card slot difficult to find. On the Apple iPhone 4, the SIM card tray slot is on the right side of the phone, and on earlier models you'll find the slot along the top of the phone. The iPhone 4 differs from older models because it uses a Micro SIM card that is about half the size of a standard card. Installing the SIM card on an Apple iPhone is a straightforward process.
Step 1
Bend a paper clip into a straight line.
Step 2
Find the SIM tray slot on the right side of the iPhone 4, or along the top of earlier iPhone models.
Step 3
Insert the straightened paper clip into the small hole on the SIM tray slot, and push gently until the tray pops out of the phone case. Pull out the SIM card tray by hand.
Step 4
Push the Micro SIM card or standard size SIM card into the tray. Make sure it fits snugly into the card guide on the tray with the gold circuit on the card facing down.
Step 5
Insert the tray back into the slot until it clicks into place. Power on the iPhone and wait for a few seconds for the phone to recognize the SIM card.
Tip
- As an alternative to a paper clip, use a pin or cocktail stick.
Warning
- Don't push the pin or paper clip too hard because this can cause hairline cracks on the phone casing.
