IPhone 4 Vs. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Vs. Samsung Captivate

The Apple iPhone 4, the Samsung Captivate and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 have many similarities and differences. Many of the same standard features are the same, but presented differently. For instance, all three smartphones have a camera but the number of megapixels differs. In addition, a comparison of the three phones reveals that each phone is capable of video playback and recording.

Platform

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Samsung Captivate use the Android operating system. The Android platform is a free and open-source coding system that allows other developers to create applications that improve the functionality of the device. The Apple iPhone 4 uses the Apple proprietary operating system named iOS. The current version installed on the iPhone 4 as of June 2011 is iOS 4.

Weight and Dimension

The iPhone 4 and the Xperia X10 weigh approximately 4.8 oz., whereas the Captivate is slightly lighter at 4.5 oz. The dimensions of the cellphones are also very close, with the iPhone 4 measurements being 4.5 inches in height, 2.31 inches in width and 0.37 inches in depth. The dimensions for the Captivate are 4.78 inches high, 2.5 inches wide and 0.39 inches deep. Lastly, the Xperia X10 is 4.7-inches high, 2.5 inches wide and .05 inches deep.

Battery Life

The battery life on the Xperia X10 is up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 415 hours of standby time. The battery life on this phone will be significantly less with the use of features like the camera, video and other smartphone features. The iPhone 4 has up to seven hours of talk time and up to 300 hours of standby time. When using specific features on the iPhone the usage hours differ; for instance, Internet usage is good for up to six hours on 3G and up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi. The Captivate gets up to five hours and 50 minutes of battery life for talk time and up to 300 hours for standby time.

Memory Capacity

Storage is an important feature for many consumers and the iPhone, Xperia and Captivate offer choices. Both the iPhone 4 and the Captivate give you the choice of 16GB or 32GB. The Xperia X10 comes with 8GB of memory and the ability to add a microSD card to bring the maximum capacity up to 16GB.

Display

The three cellphones come with touch-screen displays, but where the screens differ is in the size. The Captivate has a Super AMOLED 4-inch WVGA display screen. The AMOLED technology brightens the images on the screen. The Xperia also has a 4-inch WVGA screen with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels. The iPhone 4 has the smallest screen measuring only 3.5 inches diagonally. The widescreen display has a resolution of 960 by 640 pixels.
