The iPod Nano is a small personal audio device that allows users to watch videos on it as well as listen to podcasts or music files. Although the iPod Touch allows users to download music files directly to the device, those who use iPod Nanos must use iTunes to download the music. Once the music is downloaded to iTunes, users can transfer the audio files to their iPod Nanos.

Step 1

Connect your iPod to the computer using the cord that came in the box when you purchased the iPod Nano.

Step 2

Double click on the "iTunes" icon on your computer to open iTunes.

Step 3

Select the iPod icon that appears under the "Devices" menu on the left side of the iTunes screen. A new iTunes browser window will open.

Step 4

Select the "Music" tab on the top of the new browser screen. Click on the check box next to "Sync." A box will appear that has two options.

Step 5

Select "Entire music library" in this box if you want to transfer all downloaded music files in iTunes to the iPod Nano. To choose only some of the music, click on "Selected playlists, artists, and genres." Proceed to click on the audio files you want to download onto the iPod.

Step 6

Click "Apply." The iPod display screen will show the device is syncing with iTunes. The screen will say "iPod sync complete" when the music has been fully downloaded to the iPod.

Tip

  • This same process is used to transfer audio from the iPod to iTunes.
