Windows Vista, like Windows XP, uses the Windows Update utility that is built in to the operating system to download and install the latest updates released by Microsoft. You can use this utility to update your Vista-based machine with the latest patches, upgrades and programs released by Microsoft.

Step 1

Turn on your computer and log in to your operating system.

Step 2

Click the "Start" button, click on "All Programs" and then click the "Windows Update" button.

Step 3

Click the "Check for Updates" link on the left side of the screen. The utility will check for any available updates and display them on the screen.

Step 4

Click "Install Updates" to automatically download and install the updates on your computer. Once this installation has finished, you may need to restart your computer.
