How Do I Install SnowCrest DSL?

by Steven Hill

SnowCrest is an Internet Service Provider based in Mt. Shasta, California. It provides several levels of Internet service, including dial-up and broadband. It offers broadband access through a DSL connection. After connecting the DSL modem that you received from SnowCrest, you may wonder how you can access your new broadband connection. Installing your SnowCrest DSL after you have hooked up your modem is made simple and easy through the installation disc included with your subscription.

Step 1

Place your modem near your phone jack. Plug the telephone wire into the phone port on the modem, then into the phone jack. Plug the power adapter into both the modem and an available wall outlet. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your modem, then into an available Ethernet port on either your router or into your computer, if you are not using a router.

Step 2

Open your DVD or CD tray. Place your SnowCrest installation disc into the tray and then close it.

Step 3

Click "OK" when the welcome screen appears. Read the user contract and then click "I Agree" after you have finished. Click "OK" when the disclaimer box appears. This just informs you that you may be liable for long distance charges if you dial one of SnowCrest's numbers for dial-up Internet service, which, as a DSL subscriber, you probably won't.

Step 4

Select your preferred installation type. If you don't wish to install Internet Explorer and Netscape, select "Custom." Otherwise, select "Typical."

Step 5

Check or uncheck the boxes in the "Tools" window to either install or pass on installing the included software. You don't necessarily have to install any of the software. Do so at your own discretion. Click "Install" when you have finished selecting and deselecting.

Step 6

Type your real name into the "Enter your real name" box. Type your account name, as provided by SnowCrest, into the "Account Name" box. Enter the password into both the "Password" and "Re-enter Password" boxes. Select "DSL or Wireless Internet" from the "Select Your Connection Type" field. You can uncheck the "Configure a modem dial-up connection," as you don't use a dial-up connection. Click "Next" to complete the setup. If you chose to install all tools, then setup is complete after Netscape 7.0 has installed.
