There are literally thousands of different viruses and spyware specimens that can plague a computer. Unfortunately, these can sometimes render a computer completely useless. Sometimes these viruses can be removed, but even when they can, it's still better to protect the computer from being infected in the first place. Fortunately, though, most viruses and spyware are completely preventable. Programs such as Norton Security protect against both viruses and spyware. Installing Norton Security is fairly simple.

Step 1

Remove any other antivirus or firewall programs installed on your computer. It's important not to run Norton Security and other antivirus-firewall programs at the same time because they can conflict with one another. To remove programs, go to "Start," then "Control Panel," then "Add/Remove Programs" and then click "Remove."

Step 2

Insert your Norton Security CD into the DVD/CD-ROM drive or double-click the Norton Internet Security executable you downloaded. The installation wizard will then load.

Step 3

Click "Next" on the wizard. Click the "User License Agreement," and then read it. Click "Close" to accept the agreement.

Step 4

Click "Agree and Install." Wait for the installation process to complete, which may take several minutes. Norton Security will load as soon as the installation process is finished.

Step 5

Click "Activate Now" in the bottom-right corner of Norton Security. Type your "Product Key" in and then click "Next." Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process. You have now installed Norton Security.
