The Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop by default comes with a single 256MB memory card, but it can accept cards up to 1280MB. When you take this computer from the minimum amount of memory to the maximum amount, you'll notice a drastic change in the speed at which the system handles information. You can give your Inspiron that power in about 10 minutes.
Step 1
Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable.
Step 2
Remove all the peripheral devices that are connected to the computer.
Step 3
Turn the computer over and locate the battery on the right edge of the base.
Step 4
Push the battery release latch toward the right edge of the base and pull the battery out of the bay.
Step 5
Locate the memory module compartment at the top-left corner of the base.
Step 6
Extract the screw from the memory module compartment cover and remove the cover.
Step 7
Spread the retainers on the memory module port and the existing memory module will pop up at an angle.
Step 8
Pull the existing memory module directly out of the port.
Step 9
Install the new memory module by inserting it into the port at an angle and pressing down on it until the retainers lock into the notches on its sides.
Step 10
Replace the memory module compartment cover and screw and return the computer to working condition with all the components and devices installed on it. The computer will automatically recognize the memory installation and adjust its performance upon startup.
