As of February 2011, Acer has four current lines of notebook computers, and they all have a variety of available options, like Blu-ray drives and internal Bluetooth. If you need to install the software for the internal Bluetooth adapter that came with your notebook, there are just a few steps involved in locating and then installing the drivers. If you've experienced a computer crash or other major problem, you may need to install this software. If you've gotten a new, external Bluetooth adapter, the setup process is even simpler.

Installation for Internal Bluetooth

Step 1

Locate the drivers for the Bluetooth component. Acer's drivers are at http://support.acer.com, where you'll need to select "Notebook," then your notebook's series, then your notebook specifically.

Step 2

Download the drivers by clicking the green button under the "Download" heading. Your notebook's drivers are in the "Drivers" tab displayed on the support page, then under the "Bluetooth" heading. If there is more than one option, you should download the one with the highest version number.

Step 3

Wait for the download to complete. The download should be a ".zip" file.

Step 4

Double-click the downloaded file to open it. If you're using a version of Windows earlier than 7, you may need to use a program like WinRAR or WinZIP to open it. Double-clicking the .zip file displays its contents.

Step 5

Double-click the setup file. Usually, this is simply named "Setup.exe."

Step 6

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the Bluetooth driver. You can accept the default options throughout the process.

Step 7

Restart your computer after the installation has completed.

Installation for External Bluetooth

Step 1

Insert the adapter's setup disc into your computer. If your notebook doesn't automatically start the setup process, click "Start," then "Computer," then double-click the disc drive.

Step 2

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the adapter's software. You can use the default settings for everything.

Step 3

Restart your computer after installation.

Step 4

Plug the adapter into your computer after you've logged into Windows. Most Bluetooth adapters simply plug into USB ports. The adapter is now installed and ready for you to use.

Tip

  • You can find out your computer's model information on the white label on the bottom of your notebook.
  • If necessary, you can download WinRAR at http://rarlab.com/download.htm, or you can download WinZIP at http://winzip.com/downwz.htm.
